Will traffic be a huge issue after Costco's opening?
The first Costco in the Quad Cities opened its doors today to hundreds of people.
It was a long time coming after months of concerns over added traffic along 53rd street.
The grand opening of the Costco in Davenport brought in some new and old members.
Some of them waiting for this moment.
“Every time i moved to a city i was like where is the Costco and i was kind of sad that there wasn’t one here. I’m happy there is one here, im gonna be spending a lot of money here,” says long-time member, Jerry Davis.
And the turnout was much more than managers at Costco expected.
” Everything with davenport and the Quad Cities has exceeded our expectations so we are so excited to be here, they’ve been so welcoming to us in the community,” says Lisa Pittman, Costco Regional Marketing Manager.
There is no doubt Costco is known for its bulks and its deals which brings a lot of people in. But will the amount of traffic cause some issues? Customers share with me what they think.
” It looks like a great location, the traffic wasn’t as bad as i expected. I had no problem coming in on 53rd,” says one Costco member.
” I don’t think it’s going to cause anymore traffic problems than what was already here,” shares Davis.
Traffic did not seem like a concern, which is a worry some residents had.
And in terms of business competition, some say it could be a good move.
“I think competition is a good thing and uhm the other stores need to change their business to compete then that’s what happens but its going to evolve in this direction and i think it’s good for the city.” says Scott Belflower, costumer and Bettendorf resident.
So in the meantime, customers will be filling up their carts to the brim.
The 150-thousand square foot store is bringing 200 new jobs to the Quad Cities.
So far, Costco has hired around 140 people.
