Why is my Instagram zoomed in and showing 'big' stories?
Instagram users are confused by the app’s zoomed-in view, showing “big” stories.
The photo-sharing app comes with multiple features, including Stories, which is an all-time option for shy users. Just like Notes, which appears on your chat screen, Stories appear on your profile only for 24 hours.
These posts are showcased in a tiny circle on the top, which expands to full when clicked on. But, the stories are now way bigger than usual and Instagram users aren’t liking them so much.
Why is Instagram zoomed in?
Instagram appears to be zoomed in for some users due to a technical glitch within the app, possibly caused by a bug.
As the platform hasn’t rolled out an update that could possibly change the design of the original Stories feature, the inconvenience is likely to be temporary.
Moreover, the stories on the top of the profile are meant to look smaller than the regular posts on the home feed, so it’s only obvious an enlarged view is nothing but a glitch.
Instagram hasn’t addressed the issue at the time of writing this article. Going by the complaints on Twitter, some users are opening their apps to see big stories since the evening of Tuesday, May 2.

Users are opening the app to ‘big stories’
Big is the exact word used by Instagram users to describe the view on their apps since the time the glitch appears to have taken over.
One user Tweeted: “Why are people’s Instagram stories so big”
“Yo my Instagramstories really big! Ah, like I’m mad. Why are they so big,” said another.
“Bruh why is the Instagram stories icon gone so big,” a third person said.
One user under the assumption the app has changed the layout for Stories, Tweeted: “Did Instagram change the stories setup? It’s zoomed in.”
Possible fixes
Just like the time when users were losing their minds over blurred stories on Instagram, its enlarged version may be a result of an outage, which is common.
But, there’s no harm in trying out the below methods for a possible fix until the issue is rectified within the app.
- Close the app and reopen it. You can also log out and log back in to see if the stories appear in regular-sized bubbles.
- Make sure your app is updated to its latest version.
- Delete the app and re-install it. Often, this serves as an outright fix for glitching features.
- Similar issues have gotten fixed on their own when the devices are turned off and on again.
If the issue still persists, you can access Instagram via the web as the stories appear normal, until the issue with the app is fixed.
