Who Is Westerville, Ohio’s Matheau Moore? Trial for Emily Noble’s murder gets underway
More than a year after Matheau Moore’s arrest and the alleged murder of his wife, his trial finally got underway on Tuesday.
On May 24, 2020, Emily Noble turned 52, and she shared the occasion with her spouse Matheau Moore.
The two visited a number of restaurants in Westerville, Ohio, before returning home to bed. Moore, 50, decided to sleep in the guest room after getting up in the middle of the night to use the restroom so as not to wake his wife.
When he awoke at 10 a.m., Noble had already left, taking her phone, keys, wallet, and car with her. Soon after, Moore reported his wife missing, but even then, speculations about her “disappearance” persisted.
Who Is Westerville, Ohio’s Matheau Moore?
According to the prosecution, Matheau Moore reportedly killed his wife between May 24 and May 25, 2020. He reported Noble missing on May 25. Noble pretended to be asleep when he left the house without her car, keys, wallet, or cellphone.
He handed out posters and pleaded with “The Vanished Podcast” producers to publicise his wife’s case as a missing person in the months that followed.
Throughout the roughly hour-and-a-half-long presentation, Moore made odd comments regarding Noble.
Teams of searchers were led by hundreds of volunteers in the days and weeks that followed Noble’s kidnapping. According to People, Moore apparently didn’t go even once. Her close friends were baffled as to why he never joined in.
On The Vanished Podcast, Noble’s close friend Jeff admitted that he was able to see right through Moore’s account of the night she vanished.
On September 16, 2020, Noble’s body was found hanging from a tree in a rural region not far from the couple’s home. Because of how severely decomposed her body was, they had to send her remains for a bone and strangulation study.
People said that Noble’s facial and neck fractures indicated that she had likely been strangled. Investigators also found that the scene where she was found had been staged to make it appear as though she had killed herself.

Emily Noble was reported missing in May 2020. Her body was found four months later, in September, in a wooded area not far from her Westerville home.
Investigators then came to the conclusion that her death had been staged to look to be a suicide. When she was discovered, she was wearing a USB cord around her neck.
The trial will centre at least in part on whether her death was indeed a suicide, according to court documents submitted in the days before the trial.
It will be proven through the testimony of an expert witness that suicide cannot be totally ruled out as a cause of death. When the prosecution learned this, they requested the judge for more time so they could find an expert witness to dispute it. Although they asked for a postponement, the judge denied their plea.
Their request to review the judgement was also denied. So, around 14 months after Moore was charged, the trial began.
Currently, where is Matheau Moore? His Case Update
Moore has entered a not guilty plea to one count of both felony assault and both criminal murder. He has denied the charges and is still in custody after posting US$2.5 million in bond.
The 12 regular jurors and 4 alternates for the jury were chosen on the day he was charged.
A jury view—basically a field trip—was taken by the jury members. Before going to the precise spot where Noble’s body was found in a neighbouring forested area, they first spotted the house where Moore and Noble lived. A real golf ball was used to mark the location.
Following the jury view, the jurors were discharged from their duties for the day.
