Who is Jas Prince? Takeoff was celebrating businessman's birthday before shooting
In the early hours of November 1, rapper Takeoff was fatally shot at a bowling alley in Houston. The 28-year-old was celebrating the birthday of Jas Prince, a businessman and record label CEO.
Real name Kirshnik Khari Ball, Takeoff was playing dice with his fellow Migos member, Quavo, when the shooting occurred. Two other people were shot, although Quavo was unharmed, TMZ reported.
Tributes have been pouring in online, and many fans have taken to Twitter to share their condolences with Takeoff’s uncle, Quavo, and his cousin, Offset, who together made up the hiphop group Migos.
Who is Jas Prince?
Jas Prince is the son of James Prince and is most known for discovering Drake on MySpace. He is from a famous family, given that his father is the music mogul who founded Rap-A-Lot Records in the 1980s. Jas Prince’s brothers are J Prince Jr., and Jay Prince AKA “Baby Jay.”
In 2007, Jas Prince told his father that he wanted to get into the music business and set out to find the next big thing. Who was it that caught his eye? You guessed it, it was none other than Drake.
Currently, Jas Prince is the CEO of the Young Empire Music Group. He told Forbes in 2017 that he has a “God-given ear.” He said: “I hear things, and when I hear it, I take my mind to the next level. I can see how far it can go.”
Quavo posts video with Jas Prince on night of shooting
On the night of October 31st, Jas Prince was celebrating his birthday in Houston, Texas. Quavo, who was in town for the celebration, shared a video on his story showing him in a convertible car with Jas Prince and two others.
The rapper can be heard saying: “Yo, we’re sliding through the town man… got the birthday boy with me.”
Earlier in the night, J Prince Jr. shared a post on his story: “Bowling party tonight at 9pm. Dm for details.”
He later told his followers that Quavo, No Cap, and Shakur Stevenson were on their way, followed by the fingers crossed emoji.
According to TMZ, Jas Prince was not with Quavo and Takeoff when the shooting occurred.
Tributes for Takeoff pour in online
Following the announcement of Takeoff’s death, tributes to the rapper have been pouring in online. Many of his friends and fans have shared their condolences with his family and bandmates, Quavo and Offset.
Bernice King wrote that her heart goes out to Takeoff’s family and to all who are devastated by his death. She said: “We have a lot of work to do in transforming the culture of violence into a culture of community awareness and care.”
One fan wrote: “#RIPTakeoff! Takeoff & Migos are a part of hip-hop royalty. That’s a damn tragedy what happened. Sending prayers to his family.”
YouTuber De’arra Taylor posted: “wow mane Takeoff? Smh, this is such a sad a** situation. Like it feels so weird today, everything seems numb. This world is such a sick place.”
Meanwhile, Emmitt Smith said: “Saddened by the news of losing @1YoungTakeoff. RIP my friend… I will never forget the first day we all met. @Migos Wow gone too soon. #StopTheViolence.”
