As if the so-called Twilight Renaissance wasn’t enough, the beloved vampire franchise is back in the news with Henry Cavill finally addressing Stephanie Meyer’s preference for him to play the lead role of Edward. Edward was undisputedly the hero of the series, but the many rewatches have led to a new fan following for his father, Carlisle Cullen.

The good doctor was an integral part of the series, and he was the one who began the entire saga when he started turning people who were close to death or needed rescuing. Carlisle lived for the well-being of his vamp family, loved his wife, practiced compassion for humans, and did his part by being a great doctor. He was also fun when he had to be with the kids, and these memes sum up his personality well.

A Cool Dad

Carlisle is considered one of the best fathers in Twilight, and he was indeed very different from usual coven leaders. Other vampires considered humans, wolves, and even other covens their mortal enemies, but Carlisle’s different world view did make him quite a “cool dad.”

The fact that he had made it possible for the Cullens to set up roots in places for extended periods of time was impressive. He welcomed a human into his habitat and could guarantee a large level of safety and tolerance for her also, which was unlike others of their kind.

Carlisle’s Love For Esme

Book fans would know how much Carlisle loved Esme, and that he cared for her since she had been a young human girl. They were both kindred souls: gentle, soft, loving, and compassionate to everyone around them. Even after hundreds of years of being together, he would treat Esme like a princess.

This meme depicts how tender their relationship was and imagines that Carlisle would have never left his home without kissing his wife goodbye, which was most likely what actually happened. Carlisle was a perfect partner.

Some Bloody Ground Rules

The Olympic coven was unique in the sense that they drank only animal blood, which was an important ground rule set by Carlisle. It was unheard of in the supernatural world in the Twilight Cinematic Universe, but Carlisle was no ordinary vampire either.

Some members of his family had difficulties following the animal blood diet, like Jasper and even Edward. As was his nature, Carlisle enforced the rule as much as he forgave his vampire children. His kindness to all humankind was his defining trait, and his diet was a result of that.

Carlisle And Cringy Edward

Even if Carlisle was not Edward’s biological father, he was a paternal figure for all intents and purposes. Like any parent, he was overjoyed that the loneliest of the Cullens, Edward, had found someone to love, but he was bound to cringe a little as his wildly inexperienced son navigated his dating life.

Carlisle and the other Cullens could obviously hear everything that Bella and Edward spoke about in his room, even if they tried not to. Edward’s slightly creepier lines must have made Carlisle facepalm a bit.

The biggest feat for a vampire was to be around humans and not attack them, but Carlisle, being the best Cullen, took his control to another level by entering the medical profession, and practicing restraint for years, so that he could use his advanced hearing and talents to help people.

He was, obviously, the best doctor wherever he went because he had centuries of experience, as well as superhuman powers which helped him diagnose better. Fans like to imagine that a pandemic wouldn’t hold a candle to Dr. Cullen.

More Cullen Kids

The origins of the Cullen family began with Carlisle looking for others who could join him and make him less lonely, but it soon grew to a whole coven of vampires. Both Carlisle and Esme were parental figures who liked looking after younger vampires, and their brood was always growing.

When Carlisle saw Bree, both he and Esme wanted to make her one of them, since she was someone they thought could be saved from a bad life. This was something Carlisle did throughout his lifetime, which was how the Olympic coven came into being.

Carlisle’s 99 Problems

After being relatively fuss-free, Edward put Carlisle through the most hurdles after he chose Bella as his mate. Carlisle was very accepting of the human-vampire connection, but he did feel very exasperated when he got calls about Edward making Bella pregnant, which was unheard of in vampires.

Many say Carlisle got worse and worse, but his patience and desire to know more about the anomaly proved that he was the best person Edward could go to. He was never ruffled, always gentle, and used his medical knowledge to make the birth as painless and safe as he could.

The Cullen Morality

Carlisle’s best trait was his tolerance and acceptance of others of his kind, even when they killed humans for blood. This was how he managed to make so many allies and friends throughout his life, whom he could call on during his time of need to testify for Renesmee and her life.

He did, however, request them to hunt outside of Forks so that they could continue living there, which may have rubbed some nomads off the wrong way, as he was telling them how to live their lives, albeit for a short period of time. Still, it didn’t come from a malicious place, but a logical one.

That One Scene

The oldest Cullen was one of the most beloved members of Twilight, so when he was beheaded in that one scene from Alice’s visions, everyone’s heart sank. Nobody knew that it was a glimpse into the future, and it sure looked as if Carlisle had finally met his end at the hands of the Volturi.

Everyone breathed a sigh of relief when they found out that Carlisle hadn’t actually died, because he was too good of a vampire to meet a horrific end. He was easily the best vampire alive, and he deserved his immortality more than anyone else.

An Alternative

Team Edward and Team Jacob were the two camps that Twilight fans rooted for, but the recent resurgence of the franchise has led to the formation of another — Team Carlisle. Hosts of fans have realized that he was actually much better than the young male leads, as he was mature, gentle, sweet, and understanding, which were qualities he had attained after centuries of being alive.

It took some time but Twihards have caught on to the fact that Carlisle was one of the best men in the books and movies, and have since moved on from Edward and Jacob to Dr. Cullen.
