Disney just released the official trailer for their new live-action film starring Tom Hanks, Pinocchio. With the Disney classic releasing in September, fans of the original have a lot of hopes for the film after the flop of Lightyear.

While Lightyear was a fine movie on its own, Toy Story fans couldn’t help but compare it to its predecessor. Buzz Lightyear has been a beloved Disney-Pixar character since the ‘90s and fans couldn’t help but want the best for him. Since the release of Lightyear, there have been oodles of memes depicting his character. While some are a little questionable, most reign true for everyone’s favorite space ranger.

Buzz’s Preferred Name

Buzz Lightyear had a lot of amazing quotes in the Toy Story franchise that set his character apart. When he was first introduced, Buzz had no idea he was a toy and thought he was the real Buzz Lightyear.

Buzz had an image to protect and viewed himself as an elevated person (or toy) compared to others. Knowing this, one could see Buzz referring to himself as the valuable Space Ranger, Buzz Lightyear.

Buzz Thought He Was Better Than Everyone In The First Movie

There are a few memes that sum up the Toy Story movies, but this one perfectly described Buzz in the first movie.

Once he “landed” on a “strange planet” (I.e. Andy’s room), Buzz acted as a protector of sorts to serve and protect. However, his worldly persona came off as all-knowing and not very likable to characters like Woody. This meme may poke fun at those who aren’t interested in reading, but it resonated with Buzz’s character since he didn’t think intelligent life was to be found in Andy’s bedroom.

@JustACosplayJunkie nailed their take on the meme that included Woody and Buzz. No matter how times Woody told Buzz he was a toy, Buzz refused to believe or understand it. It wasn’t until Buzz saw himself as a toy in a commercial that he put two and two together.

Buzz Wasn’t As Special As He Thought

What made Toy Story such an amazing quadrilogy was the entertaining storylines and unique sense of humor that could be enjoyed by various audiences. The differences in characters and scenarios put viewers in this dream world where toys had lives of their own.

In Toy Story 2, the toys went to Al’s Toy Barn to save Woody. While inside, they found thousands of other toys — including multiple Buzz Lightyears. By this time in the franchise, Buzz knew there were others just like him, but there was once a time when he thought he was one in a million. Hilariously, he was not alone, and it was something the other Buzzs had to learn on their own.

It’s Called Maturity

There were a few differences between Toy Story’s Buzz and Lightyear’s Buzz. Between the weapons, outfit changes, and general voice of both characters — they’re different characters.

In Lightyear, it looks like the animators gave Buzz a small indentation on his chin, which didn’t sit well with fans of the original look since it was such a memorable part of his character. After all, Buzz was designed after the fictional space ranger Buzz Lighter.

Buzz Was Andy’s Idol

This meme stayed close to Buzz’s character because he knew how much Andy idolized his likeness. In a quick glance of what movie nights for Andy looked like, Toy Story fans saw him watching a movie and eating popcorn with his toys. However, what if the movie Andy was actually watching was Lightyear.

Adorably, this meme showed that Andy could have been watching a Lightyear movie in his own universe. Woody was a good friend to Buzz and Andy to put up with Andy’s obsession and admiration for Buzz, even though he was insanely jealous and felt forgotten about.

Don’t Forget About Mrs. Nesbit!

Hannah Phillips is a character who only showed up once in the Toy Story universe. As Sid’s sweet sister, she stole Buzz when his arm broke and dressed him up in doll clothes so she could have a tea party.

Buzz was out of his element when Hannah changed his name to Mrs. Nesbit and placed him in a dress and sun hat. Buzz would do anything for a human who played with him, which is why this meme could sum up his character. Instead of buzz looking at his space suit in excitement, it would have been humorous if he was reconnected with Mrs. Nesbit in Lightyear.
