Online option with click & collect

WITH non-essential shops shut, you can still order online from the comfort of your sofa and pick up in-store. These big names do a free click and collect service:

ARGOS: Flick through the (online) catalogue, place your order then collect it along with your weekly food shop at Sainsbury’s. Simply choose the click and collect option at checkout and you will receive a message when your item is ready to be picked up.

NEXT: Shoppers can use the service in 300 of 390 stores nationwide. Orders are often ready in an hour. Just be sure you check online first to see if your local branch is doing click and collect.

DUNELM: Classed as a homeware store and therefore forced to close, you can still collect orders from Dunelm completely contact-free.

MATALAN: The fashion and homeware retailer is offering click and collect but orders typically take a week or so to arrive in-store. Confirmation will be sent when your order is ready to pick up.

DEBENHAMS: While its shops are closed, the department store is offering a new click and collect service through ParcelShop, so you can pick up from any of the 4,500 convenience stores listed that are local to you. Unlike the others, however, this service will cost you a fee of £1.99.

JOHN LEWIS: Pick up your homeware order from John Lewis or get it when buying the milk at Waitrose. The store offers the service for free – so long as you spend at least £30.

B&M - best for ornaments

THE bargain-basement retailer has everything from footstools to furnishings . . .  but its little ornaments will really pep up your home.

You can bag a treat and still get change from a fiver.
