The family of a teenager who died in a crash in Grand Rapids on Monday night has identified her. She left a lasting impression on everyone who knew her.

Around five o’clock in the evening, an SUV struck Tessa Stanley, a 17-year-old student at Forest Hills Eastern, while she was strolling in the 3700 block of Knapp Street Northeast, between Dunnigan and Maguire avenues. Her relatives think she was opening her mail.

Those who knew Tessa Stanley, a StageGR student at Forest Hills Eastern High School, have been deeply affected by her sudden passing.

The high school’s StageGR community announced her untimely passing on December 11, 2023, via a Facebook post.

Tessa, known for being a smart and attractive woman, has generated a lot of interest in the circumstances surrounding her death given her abrupt departure.

Authorities reported that a 16-year-old teenager from Grand Rapids Township, who was traveling west, struck her.

Despite the efforts of first responders, they pronounced her dead at the site. Her relatives say she had a promising future.

Tessa Stanley, a student at Forest Hills Eastern High School involved with StageGR, has left the entire school community in deep mourning since her passing on December 11, 2023.

From being a member of the “Finding Nemo” ensemble to playing Wednesday Addams in “Addams Family” and Kelsi in “High School Musical,” Tessa had a wide variety of roles. She significantly contributed off-stage as well.

Her invaluable support in technical and backstage responsibilities throughout the productions of “101 Dalmatians” and “Seussical” demonstrated her passion and extensive contributions to the stage, revealing the depth of her commitment to the arts.

After her passing, Forest Hills Eastern also released a statement.

A spokesman of the school said, “Tessa was an exceptional student, a talented singer, and a gifted actress with a passion for theater and performing arts.” 

The school stated that she was not only a kind and compassionate person but also a beacon of decency and hope.

Her grace and love left an unforgettable legacy, impacting the lives of many people.

To support children in coping with loss, the school asserts to have a specialized crisis team, as well as numerous school counselors and mental health liaisons. 

“Let us surround the Stanley family with our love, prayers, and support in the coming days, weeks, and months,” they concluded.
