Residents evacuated, returned as crews respond to report of fire at Bettendorf care center

Written by Andrew Mccoy — 0 Views

Some residents were evacuated after firefighters responded to a fire shortly after 9:30 a.m. Saturday at Bettendorf Health Care Center, 2730 Crow Creek Road, Bettendorf.

Eleven residents in the west wing were evacuated, then relocated to different rooms within the facility. One person was transported from the west wing to a hospital for evaluation.

Firefighters said there were no injuries.

The fire was contained to one room in the west wing and was “extinguished quickly by the suppression system” while firefighters performed rescue operations, a news release said. The fire and heat were significant enough to trigger flow from both sprinkler heads in the room.

The west wing was closed Saturday because of water and smoke damage while relocation efforts continued.

There was no damage estimate Saturday, when the cause of the fire remained under investigation.

Residents had returned to the facility by 11 a.m. In addition to Bettendorf fire and police, emergency responders included Davenport, Rock Island Arsenal and Riverdale fire crews.

Outside agencies notified about the fire include an inspector and investigator from the Iowa State Fire Marshal’s Office, Scott County Emergency Management Agency and Scott County Health Department.
