Nike x Pigalle Collaboration

Basketball has once again brought together two big players, with Nike rolling out its collaboration with Pigalle in the same month the project was announced. The collection, produced in association with the Parisian streetwear brand also known as PPP, consists of dual-branded trainers, shorts, hats and tank tops. New takes on the sportswear giant’s Air Force 1 high and low top trainers, priced from £170, have been inspired by the scuffed concrete of a basketball court. The premium painted leather uses varnishing and tie-dye techniques to create a distressed feel. Transparent soles also reveal geometric designs likened to the diagrams of a coaches playbook. Clothing in the range continues the faded look, with raw edges and further tie-dye treatments throughout. Each piece carries both the Nike Air and Pigalle logos. Stéphane Ashpool – founding member of PPP, which is the collective made up of Pain O ChoKolat, Pigalle and Pompon – says the aged feel is intended to deliver “a handmade old-school look”. “These pieces are made to be comfy. It’s based on what we wear,” he added. The 2014 Nike x PPP collaboration is a continuation of the longstanding relationship between the American firm and Ashpool. In September 2009 the two collaborated to renovate a basketball court in Paris, opened in an event hosted by Lebron James. The Nike x PPP collection is available now at Dover Street Market as well as in select Nike stores and other Nike retail partner locations worldwide.
