Music Guild seeks key ‘Fiddler’ actors
While Quad City Music Guild has announced casts for its summer 2024 shows, the classic “Fiddler on the Roof” for August still needs to fill a few key roles.
It will hold an open call Sunday, March 3 at 1 p.m., at the Prospect Park Theater (1584 34th Ave., Moline) for selected roles. Those who have not already attended auditions for this production are encouraged to try out.
The director is Jake Ladd, with choreographer Christina Myatt and musical director Chad Schmertmann.
Please be prepared to sing 16 – 32 measures of an upbeat song in the style of the play. Accompanist will be provided. No pre-recorded accompaniment is allowed. Also, be prepared to read from the script and learn a short dance routine.
Rehearsals begin June 17th, and performances will be Aug. 2-4 and 8-11, 2024.
The roles still open are:
- Yente, the Matchmaker: Age Range: 55 – 70
Yente is the village matchmaker. She is a widow and a meddling busy-body who makes it her business to know all of the town gossip. Strong comedic timing. (Principal role)
- Motel, The Tailor: Age Range: 20 – 30, Vocal Range: Baritone/Tenor
Motel is the meek and very poor village tailor. He seeks the hand of Tevye’s eldest daughter Tzeitel, and in the process comes into his own by standing up for his feelings for her. (Principal role)
- Perchik: Age Range: 18 – 25, Vocal Range: Baritone/Tenor
Perchik is a student at the university, a visitor and outsider to Anatevka. He has some radical views that challenge traditions. He falls in love with Hodel (Tevye’s 2nd eldest daughter). He is likable, charming and ultimately an accepted part of Tevye’s family. (Principal role)
- Fyedke: Age Range: 18 – 25, Vocal range: Tenor
Mainly speaking role with a possible featured Tenor solo in “To Life.” Fyedka is a Russian soldier who falls in love with Chava (Tevye’s 3rd eldest daughter). They elope when Tevye cannot accept this break with Jewish tradition. Movement/dance ability helpful. (Principal role)
- Male Dancers: Will double as Russian soldiers as well as Bottle Dancers, etc. Good general movement/athletic ability. Strong balance.
“Fiddler” leads (cast so far) will be Joe Urbaitis as Tevye, Penelope O’Connor as Golde, Sydney Greer as Tzeitel, Kiera Bowman as Hodel, and Wrigley Mancha as Chava.
