Katharine McPhee and David Foster are getting ready for a “big,” “loud,” blended family Christmas.

Following their recent tour in support of their album “Christmas Songs,” Katharine McPhee and her husband David Foster are excited to spend the holidays with their loved ones.

The couple is especially eager to enjoy the holiday with their nearly 3-year-old son, Rennie.

“He is getting very excited about seeing Christmas lights and decorations,” McPhee said in a November interview with ABC Audio. “As an adult, I get excited about these things—I have never lost the magic and excitement of Christmas—so to have someone else to get equally excited with is great.”

Aside from his five adult daughters from past relationships, Foster says their home’s Christmas celebrations are “different every year.”

It is large. It is noisy,” he mentioned. “But it’s Christmas, and it’s fun!”

The pair’s extended version of their holiday EP from the previous year, “Christmas Songs,” is another way they can enjoy the season.

The song that serves as their single, “Carol of the Bells,” was originally recorded by Foster for his 1993 album “The Christmas Album.” Although McPhee sings in this new version, it is difficult to distinguish her voice amidst the cacophony of voices.

She laughed and said, “I am pretty buried in there, honestly.” Foster claimed that a friend of their record company suggested that he rework the song, saying that he thought having McPhee on it would be “super-cool.”

You cannot even hear McPhee singing on it because there are so many other singers. “A sense and an aura were our goals. The focus is not on a feature. I have a ton of other songs that I would love to feature on, you know,” she stated.

Foster stated that some crowdsourcing was utilized in the process of selecting the album’s seven new tracks. He recalled, “I would play a song at a party somewhere and say, ‘Hey, what do you think of this song?'” as we were just going about our lives and trying to choose these songs.

During a recent in-store signing with Foster, McPhee added, the album was playing over the sound system, and she realized they would have done a good job putting it together.

“When hosting family get-togethers, you should have a great Christmas album playing in the background,” she advised. It has a smooth flow to it. Additionally, you have the option of listening to it in the background or attentively. And I must admit that I am quite happy about that.”

While visiting Billboard, David Foster and Katharine McPhee revealed the songs that are currently on their Christmas playlist.
