Is Vaughn Grissom Related To Marquis Grissom? Braves Brings Out Prospects As Replacement
The Braves announced on Wednesday that right-handed pitcher Kirby Yates has been taken off the 60-day injured list and that they have signed top infield prospect Vaughn Grissom from Double-A Mississippi.
Atlanta moved outfielder Adam Duvall from the 10-day IL to the 60-day IL and put first baseman Mike Ford back on the 40-man roster. Adam Duvall was moved from the 10-day IL to the 60-day IL.
After this, the biggest worry is about how Vaughn is with Marquis, who used to play baseball. Let’s find out what’s going on.
Is there a link between Vaughn Grissom and Marquis Grissom?
Marquis Grissom has been a baseball legend since the early 1990s. Vaughn Grissom, on the other hand, is taking the baseball world by storm right now.
Vaughn, a 21-year-old rookie who was picked in the 11th round of the 2019 draft, has moved quickly through the minor leagues. In his first 98 Double-A plate appearances, he had a slash line of.363/.408/.516. He has never played in a league higher than A-ball, but his.312/.404/.487 line in 344 at-bats in High-A this year is also worth mentioning.
It’s the second time this year that the Braves have quickly moved up a top prospect from Double-A, and it’s easy to think that Michael Harris II’s huge success gave the front office the confidence to do it again.
Marquis, on the other hand, played outfield and pitched for Florida A&M University’s baseball team. He played for the Rattlers for two years, 1987 and 1988, and hit.408 during that time.
In 1988, no other Division I player hit more triples or scored more runs per game than he did. He pitched two full games, had a batting average of.643, and was chosen as the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Baseball Tournament’s Most Outstanding Player. He was put into the MEAC Hall of Fame in 2014.
But Vaughn and Marquis don’t seem to be related in any other way than that they both like baseball. Since they both had the same last name, fans were confused.
Who is the father of Vaughn Grissom?
Marquis Grissom, who used to play baseball, has the same last name as Vaughn Grissom, so everyone thought they were father and son. So far, though, nothing has been proven. This hasn’t been talked about by either the players or a reliable news source.
Marquis married Sharron, and as of 2015, they both lived in Georgia, in Sandy Springs and Fayetteville. His five kids are Micah, D’monte, Tiana, Marquis Jr., and Gabriella. In the 13th round of the 2022 MLB Draft, the Washington Nationals picked Marquis Jr. During his playing career, Grissom bought homes for his parents and each of his 14 siblings.
After Grissom retired from baseball, he started the Marquis Grissom Baseball Association. This is a non-profit group that puts on baseball games for poor kids in the Atlanta area.
Antonio, Grissom’s younger brother, played in the minor leagues for the Expos and the Phillies.
Vaughn Grissom Wikipedia
After starting the year in High-A Rome, Grissom has just been moved up to Mississippi. Since the Braves need a middle infielder and he has done well in AA, it may be worth it to bring him up early, even though it would be a huge jump to the majors.
With Mississippi, Grissom has played 24 games and hit.364 with three home runs. This gives him an OPS of.924. He also hit.312 and hit 11 home runs in 74 games for Rome. The 21-year-old shortstop can really hit, and if the Braves want to keep going in this direction, he should be a good defender at second base.
