Is Dance Moms Staged? Everything To Know About The Lifetime’s Reality Show

Written by James White — 0 Views

Dance Moms, the Lifetime’s reality show, often makes headlines for some of its coolest facts. Not everyone knows that it was initially pitched as a documentary. Also, the base camp of the stars was reportedly near a doctor’s office. This is not our today’s concern, though.

Most of the reality shows are staged. Or you may call them scripted and dramatized. Similarly, people are convinced that Dance Moms should have the same filming process. But is it true?

To the newbies, Dance Moms focused on the girls on the ALDC Junior Elite Competition Team. Well, ALDC stands for Abby Lee Dance Company. The girls learned dances and then ended up competing. The show premiered back in 2011, created by Collins Avenue Productions. Along with them, the moms had their drama and went to great lengths to help their girls fulfill their dancing dreams.

Coming back to Dance Moms being staged or real, the speculation is quite obvious. It’s quite difficult to understand based on how it always showed us. What do you think? Here are all your answers.

Is Dance Moms Staged Or Real?

Well, it cannot be answered directly with a yes or no. Dance Moms isn’t staged fully, as a few things are dramatized. Back in 2018, the former cast member Payton Ackerman shared that Dance Moms is not staged, but it was heavily edited. On this note, she said, “Reality television isn’t scripted, but it’s not reality.”

Payton further added that she and her mother (Leslie) were portrayed as villains from the very beginning of their timing in Dance Moms. Following that, they even ended up receiving death threats which were more dangerous and equally weird.  She said, “Things are set up.” No, they never got any script, but the situations in Dance Moms are usually set up.

In other words, we may say that the chaos, fights, and intense scenes in Dance Moms are mostly staged. That’s done to create the hype of the reality show. But one thing in Dance Moms is very transparent and real. Guess what? Well, that’s the competition between the girls.

Not to forget to mention, some of the cast members got heavy support from the producers of Dance Moms. One of them was Maddie Ziegler, who was just 7 years old at the time of joining the show. She shared that the core team helped her with what she had to say in her mom’s absence.  Maddie further added that it was difficult to do a reality show which had so much drama. On this note, she said, “The producers set it up to make us all yell at each other.”

What’s more, staged in Dance Moms? The fight of the mothers, as mentioned earlier. Sometimes, they had to fake it on the show. Later, they used to talk calmly and laugh about it. But Maddie also confirmed that their dance competition was pretty much “real.”

Not everyone knows the first time when Lifetime came up with the idea of starting Dance Moms. The successful journey was not at all expected so much. Dance Moms ran its course for eight long seasons, concluding with it in 2019. No wonder the core team of the show kept the hype throughout with the drama among the moms. Also, dancers from the audience were highly intrigued by the intense, real competition. How much did you enjoy Dance Moms?
