How is Joely Fisher related to Carrie Fisher?

Written by Andrew Davis — 0 Views

Joely Fisher guest starred as Joy in the February 6, 2023 episode of Fantasy Island, titled The Urn – is she related to Carrie Fisher, and if so, how?

“After an urn comes off the plane,” reads the episode description, “three siblings must work through their past resentments in order to spread their mom’s ashes and fulfil her last fantasy.”

Its cast includes Roselyn Sánchez as Elena Roarke, Kiara Barnes as Ruby Akuda and John Gabriel Rodriquez as Javier, with Joely Fisher stepping in as Joy Summers.

Yes, Joely Fisher is Carrie Fisher’s half-sister.

They are connected via Joely’s father’s marriage to Debbie Reynolds. Reynolds married Edwin “Eddie” Fisher in 1955. They divorced four years later, but they had two children: Carrie and Todd Fisher.

After he and Debbie Reynolds divorced, Eddie Fisher married Elizabeth Taylor. Their marriage also lasted five years, but it’s the one that came after theirs that concerns the relationship between Carrie and Joely Fisher.

Eddie married Connie Stevens in 1967. Their marriage lasted just two years, but produced two daughters: Joely and Tricia Leigh. Joely and Tricia are therefore the half-sisters of Carrie and Todd.

She married cinematographer Christopher Duddy in 1996. They have three daughters: Skylar, born in 2001; True Harlow, born 2006; and Olivia Luna, born 2008, whom they adopted.

The three sisters have two stepbrothers, Cameron and Collin Duddy. They are Christopher’s sons from a previous relationship. They are significantly older than their stepsisters, born circa 1986 and 1988 respectively.

Cameron is the bass guitarist for country music band Midland.

Born October 29, 1967 in Burbank, California, Joely Fisher is of Ashkenazi Jewish, Irish and Italian descent.

Have Joely Fisher and Carrie Fisher ever been in anything together?

Yes. Joely’s husband Christopher directed a film called Cougar Club in 2007, which featured both Carrie and Joely among its cast. Carrie played Glady Goodbey, while Joely played Lulu.

Other than that, they both appeared in the televised 61st Annual Academy Awards – this doesn’t really count as a joint credit.

They also both featured, as themselves, in a 2002 episode of Intimate Portrait, titled Joely Fisher; and in a 1995 episode of Ellen, titled The Movie Show. In the latter, Joely Fisher played Paige Clark, while Carrie played herself.
