Hot Glass, Inc. offers new class for vets
Hot Glass, Inc. in Downtown Davenport is on it’s fourth week of glass blowing classes for veterans.
Hot Glass, Inc. is a non-profit that was founded in 2013 and has been offering free classes to disadvantaged youth for two years. In Fall 2016, they received funds and decided to expand that and offer a class called “Celebrating Service: Creating With Fire” for local veterans.
“It’s good to come to the glass shop, get lost for a couple of hours, make something you can be proud of,” said Executive Director Joel Reyser. “And think about that instead of the problems they might have.”
Joel says that the program is good for veterans struggling from PTSD. It allows them to focus on detail and teamwork, and think about the complicated craft instead of what bothers them.
“There’s a lot of things that can be good to come out of it,” said Vietnam veteran Mike Boesen. “Like Joel said earlier, it helps keep your mind off of problems.” The non-profit is funded by many area groups, and are able to offer these classes for veterans at no charge.
