If you’re a fan of that old scary, supernatural TV drama series from the early 2010s, Grimm, then Portland, Oregon, might ring a bell, and you have a soft spot for The Rose City in your heart. Firstly, Grimm brings us to a world inspired by the Brothers Grimm’s scary stories. Across six seasons, Grimm told its spin on those classics in various locations throughout Rose City, giving the city of Portland an extra appeal to tourists and pop culture fans as it bolstered its status as an iconic destination.

Developed by Stephen Carpenter, who teamed up with Universal to bring it to life, the show narrates how Nick Burkhardt woke up one day and had to defend his city from all sorts of threats: From fantastic monsters to local villains. What’s Grimm About?

As stated earlier, the show is deeply inspired by the Brothers Grimm stories.  “Grimm” aired on NBC from October 2011 until March 2017, spanning six exciting seasons. Furthermore, it tells us about the life of a Portland cop called Nick Burkhardt, who finds out that he’s the descendant of the Grimm family.

Then, Nick gains the ability to see the true identities and intentions of the hidden supernatural creatures that reside in Portland. As Nick plunges into a world of grim mystery, he soon realizes that his destiny lies in protecting the world from the Wesen. Additionally, much of the charm of the show lies in its intriguing portrayal of Portland and the unique settings where the characters dwell.

Grimm Filming Locations: Portland, The Rose City

Grimm was mainly shot in Portland, Oregon, and in a film studio. Still, the exteriors build up to the character and appeal of the show, giving it that dark, gloomy look. While Portland is another of those cities going through the struggles of homelessness, bad public ornate, and the social crises that blight the United States, the city’s pop culture allure remains one of its main attractions for domestic and international tourists alike.

Monroe’s House

This Victorian-styled property located at 418 SW Hamilton St served as the residence of one of the show’s beloved characters, Monroe the Blutbad, a fan-favorite known for his wits and cringy love for clocks. This charming house has become an iconic symbol of Monroe’s character and a “must-visit” destination for any fan of the series. Just don’t knock or enter, or the owners will call the cops on you for trespassing!

Exotic Spice & Tea Shop

Located at 117 NW 2nd Avenue Old Town, the Exotic Spice & Tea Shop was a recurring location throughout the series. While it now serves as a bike shop, in the show, the store was a one-stop-shop for all things mystical and potion-related. Visitors to the area can walk by this historic location and take in the essence of Rosalee’s knowledge of magical beverages and wisdom. Just don’t go in unless you’re planning to buy something bike related!

Portland Police Station

The classical American-styled architecture of the US Customs House at 220 NW 8th Avenue is where the film’s crew shot the scenes of the Portland Police Station in the series. Furthermore, many crucial scenes take place at this location, as Nick and his partner Hank Griffin, played by Russell Hornsby, work together to solve crimes committed by supernatural beings. For architecture buffs, this historic building, which dates back to 1901, is a treat. They won’t let you in unless you have an official business to conduct, so just watch it from outside.

Bud’s Trailer

The Imperial Paint Company at 2526 NW Yeon Avenue served as the home of Bud Wurstner, played by Danny Bruno. This now-abandoned industrial location was a perfect fit for the character who served as Nick’s trusted mentor in the world of Wesen. It’s located in a rather part of town, so drive by quickly and don’t stay there too long. 

By visiting these four locations, you can immerse yourself in the world of “Grimm” and take in some of Portland’s most iconic landmarks. From Monroe’s Victorian home to the South Precinct, these filming locations are sure to spark your imagination and transport you into the unique universe of the show.
