The Post Graduate medical student Dr. D Preethi from Kakatiya Medical College, was rushed to the NIMS (Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences) after she tried to end her life in Warangal, She was declared dead on Sunday 26 February 2023.

Despite continuous efforts by an integrative team of specialist doctors, Preethi could not be saved and she was declared dead on 26 February, at 9.10 pm,” declared NIMS Medical Superintendent Dr. Satyanarayana.

Meanwhile, Police were positioned at the hospital to prevent any trouble as some groups staged a protest in the evening challenging that the State government pay ex gratia to Dr. Preethi’s family.

Dr. Preethi KMC Medical Student Death Accused

On Friday 24 February 2023, the Telangana Police arrested the accused of Dr. D Preethi’s suicide and death, Dr. MA Saif, a 2nd-year MD student at Kakatiya Medical College in Warangal.

He has been arrested in connection with the suicide attempt by Dr. Preethi, who was Saif’s junior at college.

Early on 22 February 2023, Wednesday morning, Preethi was found unresponsive in the MGM Hospital staff room while on duty.

Dr. Preethi is said to have tried suicide by injecting anesthesia drugs due to Dr. MA Saif, who is accused of harassing her and forcing her to try ending her life.

According to the sources, the incident took place, and the police arrested the accused on Friday.

Police have quoted ragging-related laws and the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act in inclusion to charges of assistance to suicide against the accused.

The police are still waiting for the toxicological examination findings for final proof.
