Cotheridge house fire leaves man, 21, and woman, 18, dead after horror blaze

A MAN and teenage girl have been killed in a horrific house fire overnight.

The 21-year-old man and 18-year-old woman were found inside the Cotheridge home in Worcestershire about 8pm last night.

Around 30 firefighters had rushed to the scene in Bromyard Road but made the tragic discovery.

Police are now working to investigate just what caused the blaze.

Chief Superintendent Kevin Purcell said: "We were called to assist the fire service with a fire in Cotheridge, near Worcester, last night at around 8pm, sadly two young people have been confirmed as deceased -  a 21 year old man and an 18 year old woman.

"A cordon is still in place and a fire investigation will now take place."

Fire investigators are today examining the scene.

A West Mercia Police spokesperson said officers have been called to Bromyard Road last night.

They said: "Officers attended to assist with closing the road to enable firefighters to deal with the incident.

"Next of kin have been informed, formal identification has not yet taken place."

The road has are now reopened but there are traffic calming measures in place to slow the traffic in the area.

A Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said seven fire engines arrived at the scene after being called at 7.49pm.

They said: "Fire investigation officers have been working with crews and SOCO from West Mercia Police throughout the night to make the property safe and establish the cause.

"This morning, two fire engines remain at the incident for damping down."

They added: "This is a multi-agency incident and the thoughts of the HWFRS are with the families of the deceased."
