Cedar Rapids Mayor says he won't be running for re-election

Written by John Shaw — 0 Views
A mayor in Iowa could be laying the groundwork to make a run for governor in two years.   Cedar Rapids Mayor Ron Corbett announced today he will not seek re-election. That clears the way for a possible run for  governor in 2018. Corbett wouldn’t confirm those plans, but, says this move, “clears the way” to run for higher office.    “For me i make one decision at a time and today iImade the decision to announce to people that i wasn’t going to run for reelection, now I can focus on the possibility of another decision of potentially running for governor but i’m gonna let things play out a little bit here.”   The Republican has been Cedar Rapids’ mayor since 2009. He would presumably have to challenge Lieutenant Governor Kim Reynolds in the primary. Reynolds will take over as Iowa’s governor pending Terry Branstad’s confirmation as  U.S. ambassador for China.
