In a tragic incident that unfolded in Smyrna on Tuesday, a fatal four-car crash claimed the life of a woman. In a recent development, the victim has been officially identified as Caitlynn Mitchell, a 25-year-old resident of Smyrna.

In the early hours of Tuesday morning, at approximately 7:30, Delaware State Police were alerted to a four-car collision at the intersection of Wheatleys Pond Road and Mount Friendship Road. According to investigators, a blue 2016 Ford Fiesta was observed halted in the southbound lane of Wheatleys Pond Road, as it made preparations to execute a left turn onto Mount Friendship Road.

According to reports, a 2005 Chevrolet Silverado of tan colour was observed heading southbound on Wheatleys Pond Road, nearing the back of the Fiesta. According to police reports, it has been stated that the Silverado vehicle did not come to a halt and collided with the rear of the Fiesta cars. This impact resulted in the Fiesta being propelled into the trajectory of a white 2015 Jeep Cherokee, which was heading in a northerly direction on Wheatleys Pond Road.

According to authorities, the collision occurred when the front of the Cherokee vehicle collided with the right passenger side of the Fiesta. As a result of the impact, the Fiesta overturned onto its driver’s side. According to reports, a Cherokee vehicle allegedly collided with a stationary red 2013 Chevrolet Camaro at a stop sign on Mount Friendship Road.

According to authorities, the individual behind the wheel of the Fiesta, who has been identified as Mitchell, was transported to a nearby medical facility. Tragically, medical professionals at the hospital declared her deceased.

In Clayton, a 31-year-old woman was behind the wheel of a Jeep when she sustained injuries that were determined to be non-life-threatening.

According to police, the driver of the Silverado, identified as a 32-year-old woman from Smyrna, emerged from the incident unharmed.

According to authorities, the driver of the Camaro, identified as a 34-year-old male, along with his passengers, who are all residents of Dover, reportedly emerged from the incident unharmed.

The roadway closure lasted for an estimated duration of four hours as authorities conducted their investigation and cleared the scene.
