“Blessing in disguise for Alcaraz”- Shocked netizens react as Carlos Alcaraz stunned by world No 135 Fabian Marozsan in Italian Open

Written by Olivia Shea — 0 Views

World No. 135 Fabian Marozsan produced the biggest upset of this year when he knocked out second-seeded Carlos Alcaraz 6-3, 7-6 (4) in the third round of the Italian Open on Monday.

Alcaraz, for the first time, faced defeat from the lowest-ranked player since July 2021. At the same time, the 23-year-old Hungarian never won an ATP match until he came to Rome and qualified for the main draws. En route to the Italian Open, Marozsan lost five of his previous tournaments. Also Read: Iga Swiatek Vs Donna Vekic Match Prediction, Head-To-Head, Preview, And Live Stream | Italian Open

However, despite the huge shock, Alcaraz accepted the defeat with a smile and praised his opponent’s performance after the match. When asked if he felt any discomfort, the 20-year-old denied the same. “No, no, no. I was perfect physically,” he said. “I just didn’t feel comfortable. He made me feel uncomfortable on court. He was aggressive all the time. He was playing inside the baseline all the time. It was tough for me to get into the match, into the rally.” Also Read: Novak Djokovic Vs Cameron Norrie Match Prediction, Head-To-Head, Preview, And Live Stream | Italian Open

Alcaraz is tired. He has played a lot of tennis. I do think his opponent was great and a mega talent. But would be good to have rematch when he is well rested.

Give the kid credit..he has beating him fair and square

Are you crazy ?
So many years Big 4 played more tough schedules
than Alcaraz.
Why Alcatraz is tired even he didn't play Australian Open 🙄🙄🙄

— Yamato (@djokerinochi) May 16, 2023

Definitely an upset as he is world number 1. However the assumption is alcaraz is going to dominate in the same vein as djok and co but I don't think so. We are now heading into a very different type of era. Too many good players out there.

Crashing out of RG would be the upset of the year. That said such a lot of pressure on Alcaraz. 5 finals, one semi, won 4. Last time I checked that’s pretty awesome AND he hasn’t even been playing his best tennis. Says a lot we’re shocked when he loses.

He still doesn't master how to adjust tactics during a match, that what still seperates him from the Big 3. Djokovic definitely has an edge over him in RG.

It was exquisite playing by Fabian .
Not an upset but a well deserved win! Wow!

— Jane Morba (@janemorba) May 16, 2023

How are atp going to make the draw easier for Carlitos?

— Peter P (@PeterP67973588) May 16, 2023

Carlos needs to rest, this is good for him to prepare RG. Fabian will be out next round BTW

— Spaceship (@Rubentxu_) May 15, 2023

it is not an upset
Fabian is a well determined player, you'll hear about him a lot in the future

— mytee1737 (@mytee1737) May 15, 2023

CA’s team probably didn’t consider #135 as a serious threat and didn’t work out a proper plan ahead of the match. Carlos looked lost. It doesn’t diminish Fabian’s win though. If he hadn’t pressed Alcaraz home in the 2nd, JCF would have whispered smth into CA’ ears between sets

Congrats to the winner!
This is a blessing in disguise for Carlitos who played a lot of tennis recently! Recall last year he lost in early round to Paul and then went on to win US Open?! He needs to rest, regroup and then will be ready for RG!

— Jing Lo (@JingLo1) May 15, 2023

Upset sure but boy did the kid play well Alcaraz did not play a bad match , sometimes you just have to say too good performance of the season so far ? Possibly its one thing to beat a top player when they are slightly off but that I think is as well as I’ve seen anyone

— lee (@alessi785) May 15, 2023

Will Fabian then fade away like Emma? Wait, 🤔 Emma has never beaten a Top 20.

— BiLateral (@Bi08101657) May 15, 2023

He is so calm. He saved tennis! The world number 135. Fabian Marozsan. A Qualifier. Tennis is in good hands here. Sound familiar?

— Vivacious 🎾⛳⚽️🇿🇦 (@vivamsimango) May 15, 2023

After this win, Marozsan leapfrogged to 114 in the ATP rankings, which means he is very close to reaching the main draws of his first Grand Slam. “I’m very, very happy,” Marozsan said. “I can’t imagine this one. It was my dream last night.”

Meanwhile, as Alacarz got knocked out of Rome Open, he will get enough rest and will enter the French Open where he will be seeded No 1 at a Grand Slam for the first time.
