The Putnam Museum’s 10th annual Battle of the Bridges is going on in Davenport this weekend. Teams of adults and kids have three hours to build a bridge made of popsicle sticks, glue, and other craft supplies. The bridge that is able to hold the most weight wins. Event organizers say it’s a great way to get kids of all ages interested in how science and engineering play a part in everyday life. “This is a fun, competitive way to introduce the concepts that we kind of take for granted. We drive over the bridges throughout the Quad Cities and, hopefully, the kids will take this on and want to be more engaged in science, mathematics,” said Jeff Melvin of the QC Engineering and Science Council. The contest continues Saturday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Anyone can check it out in the Putnam’s grand lobby for free.
