5 face charges after police stop stolen truck at NorthPark Mall, Davenport
Five Quad City residents face felony charges after Davenport Police stopped a stolen truck Wednesday in the parking lot of NorthPark Mall, 320 W. Kimberly Road, Davenport, according to court records.
About 3:35 p.m. Wednesday, members of the Tactical Operations Bureau were conducting surveillance on a stolen tan Chevrolet Silverado and conducted a vehicle block on it.
Zachary Aldeman, 42, of Davenport, faces felony charges of first-degree criminal mischief and second-degree theft, along with an aggravated-misdemeanor charge of driving while barred, court records show. Davenport Police conducted a vehicle block in the mall parking lot. Aldeman was seen driving the truck, police allege in affidavits.
Eric Bearbower, 44, of Davenport, faces a felony charge of second-degree theft, court records show. He was in the truck, police allege.
Tabitha McKinley, 37, of Davenport, faces a felony charge of second-degree theft, court records show. She was in the truck, police allege.
Trevor Schaffter, 33, of Davenport, faces a felony charge of second-degree theft and a serious misdemeanor charge of interference with official acts – bodily injury, court records show. Schaffter ran from the truck and toward the mall past marked squads, and didn’t obey officers’ commands to stop, police allege in affidavits. Detectives and patrol officers tried to take Schaffter into custody and he resisted, according to affidavits. Once on the ground, Schaffter tucked his arms into his chest, “making it so Detectives and Officers could not grab them,” police allege in affidavits. Schaffter was handcuffed shortly afterward.
“While taking the defendant into custody, a detective suffered minor injuries to their left hand and both of their legs,” affidavits said.
Jack Sodeman-Dickey, 25, of Moline, faces a charge of second-degree theft, court records show. Police allege he was a passenger in the truck.
“The vehicle was occupied 5 times,” police say in affidavits. “A check through NCIC (National Crime Information Center) confirmed the vehicle was reported stolen,” according to affidavits.
All five suspects are set for preliminary hearings on March 15 in Scott County Court.
